NOTEWORTHY

GAELIC / SALIT Interlending Project

The investigation into performance levels of interlending and document supply in GAELIC member libraries has been completed and the results have also been distributed to libraries on CD-ROM. A special word of thanks to Heidi Visser and her team for making this project possible, and to the SALI Trust for having made a grant available to conduct a thorough investigation.
GAELIC Survey Results

GAELIC recently conducted a survey to assess the digital status of its libraries, determine a membership profile and surface needs to be addressed by the consortium. Thanks to all the GAELIC members who made the survey possible by taking part in the focus-group interviews.

The survey results were distributed to the libraries on CD-ROM in November 2005.

VUMA - an appeal for content

With a $250 000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, implementation of FOTIM's virtual education site, VUMA, is now underway, The objective of VUMA is to add value to the learner's higher education experience by providing friendly, online access to academic, life skills, and developmental information via a sophisticated website, thereby helping new learners to adapt to the campus environment, to enrich their learning experience and to achieve success in their studies.

Governance structures are being put into place. Members have been identified to serve on Project Teams (Content, Marketing and Communications, Technical and Web), and will be soon be informed of meeting dates etc for next year, when the real work will begin!

Although several possible sites have been identified which could be linked to the VUMA site, we still currently lack actual content.

FOTIM would like to appeal to member institutions for material (including any of their own material and modules, particularly in the areas of life skills, study skills, PC literacy, information literacy, referencing techniques research methodology, etc) which might be useful to add to the site.
